The Chinese Exclusion ActIn 1882, the Chinese Exclusion Act barred all Chinese from the United States after they flooded in to search for jobs. The hardworking, cheap-laboring Chinese funded families back in China and didn't live permanently in the United States, "stealing" the jobs of Americans.

The allied American and Chinese effort against the Japanese in World War II led to the repeal of the Chinese Exclusion Act in 1943, the first sign of non-restrictive immigration policy in the United States.
